Ed is the most honest, knowledgeable, and fair mechanic EVER. If I could give him 10 stars I would. He did all the work on our 2005 Honda Civic Si hatch back for over 12 years until we retired to Palm Springs 4 years ago. So when the check engine light on our 2015 Mustang came on this morning, I had the renewed pleasure of dealing with Ed. He got me in immediately, diagnosed the problem, and corrected the issue for what I am sure is a fraction of what a dealership would have charged. My only complaint is that I wish he would open a location in Palm Springs so we don't have wait until we are in San Francisco to have him address any issues we have with our cars. He is absolutely the BEST!!! It is no surprise that his Yelp rating if 5 stars.

Es has been our family's mechanic for over 15 years! To this day, Ed has been the most honest mechanic, specially when it comes to European cars. I recently acquired an used Mercedes suv and as per usual Ed did an honest evaluation of my car and I couldn't be more thankful! He is very good at explaining how and why and how much, all at front no lies. Thank you Ed and team!

DON"T WASTE YOUR $$$ at THE DEALER! I got a $700 quote for a series B1 service from the Mercedes Benz of SF dealer for my MB 2017 E300 -which is basically an oil & filter change + brake fluid replacement. At the last minute before my appointment I called Ed's Autohaus and got a quote for around $200 for the same service. At this point it was a no-brainer and I brought my car to Ed & Emerson and was blown away by their professionalism and caring manner. A couple hours after dropping my car off I called and asked if they could include a tire rotation and they did not balk.
The entire service was $289 :) (+ a complete car wash and interior cleaning) Not only did I save a ton of money I found a new shop with HONEST AUTOMOTIVE TECHNICIANS. I can 100% recommend Ed's Autohaus for servicing hi-end European cars and urge anyone thinking of going to the dealer to give them a try. This is a real review and I'd be happy to respond to any questions about this review at gus22garza@gmail.com - All the best! Gus Garza

Still 5 stars after years of bringing my cars and daughter's car here. Dependable, honest and kind -- very happy with Ed and Emerson.

I have owned Mercedes for over 20 years and this shop give outstanding service, is extremely knowledgeable and offers very competitive pricing. Outstanding customer service.

These guys are the BEST! They are a MUST-HAVE in your life-posse of support folks you need to survive: good dentist, barber, chiropractor, baby sitter, etc, the folks who make your life "hum" and are dependable, smart and trustworthy. Ed and his crew have maintained my Subaru now for 3 years, and they are always honest, explain issues clearly (ie: educate me), and have great customer service. Love these guys. Thanks Ed & Co! -Brian H. / Oakland

Emerson is a heaven sent, kind hearted, generous, benevolent, caring, and empathising BMW professional which I cannot say enough about in this updated review.

So my E93 didn't want to start a few days ago, but I decided against letting my AAA tow it because my front bumper is too low. I called Emerson and mentioned to him what was going on and he insisted I come by to borrow his, what I believe is very expensive, Snap On battery jumper. What shop loans tools like that?!?!!?!

I arrived at the shop only to face my 2nd challenge and that's Ed's steep driveway, which isn't lowered car friendly, but that's MY fault not his! Ed and Emerson offered to work on my car OUTSIDE of the shop - IN THE RAIN! These guys are seriously a couple of heaven sent mechanical gods!

Emerson calls to let me know how much the repairs would cost and gave me several options to be cost effective, which I really appreciated and even offered to pick up the parts himself from BMW.

Enter 3rd challenge, and that was Ed's appointment, which meant Emerson could not leave the shop unattended as he kindly intended to orginally to pick up my parts.

So, I stressfully began to plan my 3 separate Uber rides. First, to Ed's to pick up the dead battery. Second, to core exchange dead battery for new one and other needed part, and third, the trip back to Ed's shop.

WELL, Emerson was two steps ahead of me on that one! Step one: He had the smallest battery in the shop ready for me take, since it doesn't really matter when it comes to core charges, and so I wouldn't have to lug around my original super heavy battery!

Step two: HE OFFERS ME HIS PERSONAL TRUCK TO head to BMW, which saved me two slow annoying Uber rides, and not to mention the hassle of taking Uber with car parts.

Well, what else can I say about this man? Nothing! I came back with the parts and Emerson knocked it out in no time! Did I mention this individual worked on my car in the rain?!?!!?

TEN MILLION STARS GUYS!!!!!!! THANK YOU!!!

I've been to Ed's twice and still haven't paid them yet, aside from tips. I came in 6-9 months ago to have them check out a creaking sound my Audi was making when engine breaking. They couldn't isolate the cause of the sound during that visit, but recommended I have the dealer check it out and diagnose. I did exactly that and (of course) was quoted $900 by Audi to fix it. I went back to Ed's last month, told them what the dealer had found and they resolved the issue by moving a part under the chassis that was rubbing against the shifter cable. Ed still refused to charge me for the work. A month later, the noise is 100% gone and the car is running great. No question, I'll be going back to Ed's for any and all future mechanical needs.

  • *****

    - Was 30% cheaper than my two first quotes
    - Sparred me 1 expensive component
    - Washed my car before I picked it up (not planned)
    - Offered me 10% discount on labor
    - Returned my car in 2 days, which was also shorter than other offers

Anyway, clearly I was happy with these guys!

Great and honest work and reasonable pricing !!! Very easy to deal with and straight forward business practices. Unlike some auto repair shops who try to swindle and nickel and dime you!! This place is truly a gem amongst the common stones.

Diagnosed problem quickly and returned in a day

  • *****

Trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind ...Emerson is pretty much an Eagle Scout. I brought my Mercedes in and received honest feedback and exceptional service. It's sad that auto shops get a bad rap for 'screwing' people over and even though it does still happen, have no fear! you will get fair prices and super friendly service here. They did great, fast work on my car and even through in a free car wash! Lol :). This will be my go to spot from now on.

  • *****

I would highly recommend them for registration services.

They saw my 2002 C32 AMG same-day on President's Day. I came in for vague steering and a death wobble plaguing the car at 50 MPH. They diagnosed the problem, actually drove the car, and proposed a cost-efficient fix that was done the same day.

Car drives straight now, the steering is firm, and the death wobble is gone. 5/5.

Getting a second opinion from Ed's saved me a thousand dollars. Can't recommend the honesty, speed, and quality of work enough. Finally--
after a lot of shitty experiences--found my new garage.

  • *****

I would very highly recommend Ed's Autohaus.

I brought my Wrangler in (at the recommendation of a Jeep expert), to have them look into steering issues I've been experiencing. Even though they were very busy with a shop full of vehicles, they managed to diagnose it within a couple of hours.

Ed gave me a very honest assessment, and recommended the lowest cost approach to fixing the root issue. Since there was no work to be done by his shop that day, he didn't even charge me for the assessment!

I will definitely be bringing my vehicles here going forward.

Needed a small fix done on my car. The door handle came off when I had my windshield replaced, but didn't notice until later because it was my rear passenger door. After the glass guy ghosted me I hit up Emerson at Ed's. He is the man. A repair like this would usually be at least a hundred bucks considering it's an older BMW and he did it for free. Only took him a few minutes, but was an awesome gesture. Definitely won my future business!

Recently went looking for a trustworthy Saab specialist. I have two older Saabs that I love dearly, but I live in Humboldt County where no one is knowledgable about Saabs. I drove five hours to give Ed's Autohaus a try. I must say I was not disappointed. Not only did they give me a free diagnosis and repair my car properly for a reasonable price, but they met me on a Saturday to put my car in their garage for the weekend. When I went to pick up my car, I received a "new customer discount" and they even washed the car for me! It was well worth the long drive for such excellent service. I'll be back...

One hundred and twenty nine 5 star flawless reviews?! How can any establishment be this perfect?! I had to see it for myself.

I originally called Ed's Autohaus back in June and talked to Ed about an issue my E93 BMW hardtop convertible was having where the top would intermittently get stuck on the way up and would need a minor nudge for it to resume its cycle. He said he could diagnose it FREE OF CHARGE! It was like finding a rare gem!

After diagnosing it, Ed recommended I change the hardtop trunk struts which help push the hardtop up and out of the trunk. Ed also noticed that the hardtop would slam down into the trunk on the way down, which he said was another reason to change them out.

Me being skeptical me, I decided to get a 2nd opinion by another BMW mechanic who apparently graduated from a BMW hardtop school and was a BMW expert. He told me the slamming down issue was normal and that the struts had nothing to do with the top getting intermittently stuck.

I decided to get a 3rd opinion and ended up at BMW of San Francisco only to pay a $79 diagnostic fee, getting my car back 2 days later, and to have them greet me with a stupid look followed by telling me they could not solve the issue.

The 4th opinion came from BMW of Fremont. I pulled up and was lucky enough to see a tech walking around. He looked at it for a few minutes and I told him how Ed recommended switching out the hardtop struts. He grinned as if whoever told me that was a schmuck and said that was NOT the problem.

    So to summarize:

    - My hardtop goes down smoothly into the trunk now.
    - It goes up as it should and doesn't get stuck anymore (it literally jumps up out of the trunk
    with force now).
    - The price Ed gave me on the parts were the same as online prices! Name another
mechanic who doesn't mark up their parts prices! And yes they are BMW ORIGINAL PARTS!
    - BMW Hardtop Convertible Mechanic graduate go back to school.
    - BMW of San Francisco you suck.
    - BMW of Fremont tech you're the schmuck.

    Lesson learned months later:

Ed is a master of his craft!
Don't let the small shop fool you! ED is superb!
Ed is an awesome, knowledgeable, professional, and honest mechanic.

I LOVE ED'S AUTOHAUS for making my hardtop convertible fully functional again! I lived in constant fear for months each time I went to close my top and someone was watching, for I was always afraid it would get stuck!

    Fear no more!

    THANKS ED!!!!! YOU'RE THE BEST!!!

    A MILLION JILLION 5 STARS!!!!

    =)

For the first time, I found a mechanic who is honest and can be trusted with my VW GTI. Emerson was on time, he kept me posted with (texts) through the day, and photo's of the parts. Location is also fantastic right off the freeway. I said I would even come back for my oil changes, since Jiffy Lube ruined my plug.

  • *****

Ed is always available to see you ASAP and get your vehicle back same day if possible. His prices are reasonable compared to other auto shops/mechanics.

  • *****

I don't ever write reviews as this is my first. Just got an oil change at Ed's for my 2013 BMW. He is completely honest, friendly and thorough! I am going here from this point on and will refer others. We need more honest people in the service industry. This place rocks!

  • *****

Ed's Autohaus has honest and friendly service which are the main things that I look for in any service-oriented business. My brother's alternator recently gave out which reminded me of when my alternator gave out on an older car; being new to the city and still not comfortable driving around, I want to make sure I avoid getting stranded in the middle of the road with a non-functioning alternator. So, I had Ed check the health of the alternator when I brought my car in for an oil change and tire rotation. Not only did he not charge me for this check because he said it didn't take much time, but he also made sure that I understood what he learned about my alternator. He could have easily taken advantage of my paranoia about the alternator, but he didn't. It's never easy finding trustworthy services in a new city. I'm glad I can now check auto shop off my list now that I've found Ed's Autohaus!

  • *****

i can't believe that I have a mechanic that I trust AND am happy to recommend. I have been taking my car to Ed for over two years and I completely trust his advice. He's personable and honest.

Ed's Autohaus is the best thing going!!! Friendly, helpful and GREAT mechanics!! I am so glad I found them! I am a customer for life!

Ed has been my mechanic for over four years! Honest, dependable, friendly and fair, He shares his knowledge with a smile.

Ed is amazing. I rolled in worried about the check engine light, which came on after the battery died and I had to jump it twice in about two hours. Not such a big deal, except it happened in a 1999 Euro Van that is destined to go on a 1000 mile road trip, through the desert at night. Oh and I just got it from a for sale by owner in SACTO. Anyway. Even though there were at least ten cars in the lot already he brought out the diagnostic equipment and tried to figure out what had triggered the message. Once he sorted it out that is was seemingly fine, gave the engine a thorough run through he said it was probably just a glitch from when the battery had died. After spending about 35 minutes on it he said I was good to go. I asked how much I owed him, he said 'Nothing, don't worry about it." I can assure you from now on I will take my vehicles to him, he is friendly, honest and knows what he is doing.

Just got home after taking my car to Ed's Autohaus for the first time. I was a little concerned pulling up to the tiny store front on Harrison that I would never see my car again. However, I couldn't be more thrilled! I had been taking my Mercedes E-class wagon to the big SF dealership for over 8 years, but on my last visit, it took all day to change a brake light for an eye-watering amount of money. So today, I tried Ed's Autohaus. What a contrast. In less than 2 hours, all the various malfunction warning lights were banished, and the car (or bird cage, thanks to the kids) was spotless. Ed worked for a decade at another Mercedes shop and knows his stuff. No potted plants or free coffee. But amazing service, amazing value, I don't think anyone would be disappointed.

  • *****

I don't write many reviews, but am compelled to write one because of the positive experience I had with Ed. I brought my 2007 Mercedes SLK 280 in to Ed's a few days ago. I wanted a full mechanical inspection of the car before my warranty with the dealership runs out in a couple of months. I also noticed that my brakes were squeaking a bit and I remembered that the last time I took the car to Mercedes SF, they had hinted that my brakes may soon need some work. Ed did a full inspection of my car and said that it is in perfect condition save for a small valve cover gasket leak that is covered under my warranty. He told me my brakes still have 60% tread left and do not need replacing. He also fixed my middle storage compartment, which was not closing properly and was an annoyance to me. When I asked what the charges would be for his time, he basically told me "don't worry about it, it didn't take me that much time". Wow.... Honest mechanics can be hard to find and from now on I will be going to Ed's after my warranty expiration. What an excellent experience, thanks Ed!

  • *****

I will go back here. They replaced the seatbelt on my Mercedes and gave me a new wiperblade all for very low labor charges for top quality and very polite service. I felt trusting and appreciative of their service.

  • *****

I have been servicing my cars at Ed's Autohaus for the last 10 years with great satisfaction. Can't write enough how good Ed is. I have recommended him to many of my friends. He is excellent!

  • *****

Have taken my 10 year old ML to Ed's for various problems that come up when you buy a 10 year old car. The service was friendly, thorough, and very reasonably priced. I would definitely recommend Ed's.

  • *****

Extremely friendly, did good quality work. Plus, they wash your car for free and I was in and out of there for my oil change in 15 minutes. Whats not to like?

  • *****

Ed continues to amaze me with his exceptional customer service qualities. To him treating his customers is his #1 priority - I have not seen a better auto mechanic than him in all these years of owning a car.

A couple of days ago, my car had a flat tire. In spite of his very hectic work schedule at the auto shop, Ed personally came to help me with fixing the spare tire for my car, helped detect the issue with the flat tire and also gave me very good pointers for places that I can go and get new tires. And for all of this, Ed refused to take any money for the services he lent. That just shows how much he values people and the way he approaches his profession.

Ed's qualities make him the best in the business - people like him are such rare individuals, and I am very glad that I had the opportunity to take my car to him. Thanks Ed! You're the best, and San Francisco is lucky to have you!

  • *****

I took my Acura RL here to get my brakes done on short notice. They were very helpful on the phone and fit me in so it could be done before I left on a trip. After dropping it off they called me a couple of hours later and said my brakes had over 50% left on the pads and that there was no need to replace the brakes. I went to pick it up, there was no charge for the inspection. Awesome and easy especially for SF.

  • *****

I can't say enough about this place. They are incredibly reasonable, great to work with and fast. Several people in my office recommended them and having just brought my Volvo in for the first time for 100k mile servicing, I can see why - they were a pleasure to work with and very reasonable.

  • *****

This guy is great! Towed our 78 beetle into the shop, had it running in a few days.. and his pricing is pretty reasonable... I highly recommend him to anyone else in need of a no bull mechanic.

  • *****

Ed and the mechanics at Ed's Autohaus are amazing. Honest, helpful, friendly, accommodating and good at what they do. I highly recommend them.

  • *****

ed did it again. what mechanic actually goes to your house to pick up your car and when you get home, it's sitting in the driveway with the keys in the mail slot? he changed my brakes and discs and even (dry) cleaned my rims - which were really dirty.

ed's the best and has the magic touch!

  • *****

I have only found two Saab dealerships in California who are worth going to and Ed is the BEST! Not only did he take time out of his busy day to work on my car on short notice, he fixed the small things I have been dreading getting fixed thinking they would cost a fortune and did not even charge for them! Ed said with a smile, "I didn't take any longer to fix that your other repairs." I have never encountered someone who truly loves his job and his customers so much! I know that Saabs are expensive to work on and a pain to do so, but Ed when out of his way to fix everything and for a reasonable price. I will never take my car anywhere else and am sending him all my friends regardless of the make of their car.

  • *****

Man! I have been a yelp member for almost 2 years now and finally needed to write about this Ed guy! Ed is the man!! I know a few mechanics out there but Ed is undoubtly the most trustworthy/knowledgeable guy/mechanic you'll ever know..he will not B.S. you..and definitely will not recommend more than what you need! ....He's so honest, I want him to recommend more than what I need! But really, if your car got problems, Ed is the MAN!! 5 times 2 STARS = 10 STARS

  • *****

Ed is the best! Not only does he work on German cars but others as well. He's honest, extremely knowledgeable and efficient. You won't regret taking your car to him.

  • *****

Ed's Autohaus has A+ service and they drop you off to where you need to go when you drop off your car! I brought my gross Corolla in to have the axles fixed and Ed (the owner) as well as Jun worked on my car quickly and charged way less than other shops I went to =) LOVE THIS PLACE AND WILL NEVER GO ANYWHERE ELSE!

  • *****

Great guy, great service! Had been recently introduced to a never before seen warning light on my 2000 Jetta - just went on a couple of weeks ago. After passively ignoring the light for awhile, thought I'd look it up in the manual and it was my coolant light. Knowing I had to take a long trip this Christmas which included a side trip to Mammoth I checked on YELP and asked around about a good mechanic. Someone at my work referred Ed and Yelp just had great reviews! Thank goodness I went to Ed when I did -radiator was on its last leg, pieces cracking, radically leaking coolant and was going to basically fall apart and die. Would never had made it back from Mammoth. I was worried about whether he could get the parts and fix it in time for my trip, but Ed took care of it promptly, efficiently and reasonably. He's definitely my car guy from now on!

  • *****

Ed is the best mechanic I've ever had. Thorough, honest and nice as hell. I'd recommend him to anyone.

  • *****

Ed and his guys are great. He is reasonably priced and knows how to think outside the box and come up with creative and cost effective solutions. AND DID YOU KNOW HE WORKS ON LANDROVERS!!!!
So if your LR needs a little TLC not that LRs are not relable ( sure they are know the joke about why British drink waqrm beer?) Ed s the man to see.

  • *****

My 2006 Chrysler Sebring Convertible was riding like a rocking horse, leaked oil, and needed brakes. I was so afraid that the oil leak was a blown head gasket or some other horror. Ed has worked on my Mercedes CLK, so I knew that if I took the car to Ed's I would get a fair and honest assesment of the problems and decide whether or not it was time to donate the car to charity.
To my delight, the oil leak turned out to be a simple oil filter that wasn't tightned properly the last time I had the oil changed - no charge - he could have told me anything and I wouldn't know the difference. Ed replaced the front struts, brakes and rotors and the car drives like new again, with over 80K miles! The price was very reasonable, and the service was done the next day as promised. Ed showed me the issues and explained them clearly so that I could see for myself exactly what the problems were. Ed is an honest, economical, dependable, and fast auto mechanic - it doesn't get any better than that!

  • *****

called james and jeepers and creepers for advice on my 2001 jeep cherokee XJ and he told me to bring it into ed's shop.

they did a thorough and knowledgeable checkup on my highly modified jeep and i left happy and calm. they fixed a bunch of little issues and charged me a very fair hourly rate for their time, labor, and advice. i waited at the coffee shop next door, and they were able to work on my jeep while i waited (on a monday morning).

when it comes time to take care of some of the bigger issues (slight engine knock, pinion bearing noise) they found that weren't "urgent", i'll definitely be back!

  • *****

Ed's is awesome. One of the last honest mechanics around. Even lent me his own personal car while mine was getting repaired there and has dropped me off at home before. His work is flawless and is just an all around good guy. If you ever need repairs done to your car, take it to Ed's Autohaus and you won't be sorry.

  • *****

Ed is awesome, will stop what he's doing to help you, never do what's not needed, he's like your best friend, but a trusted businessman, instead of your clueless cousin trying to fix your car! Go to him. 2001 Audi A4.

  • *****

Three things to know about Ed and his team: they're smart, hardworking, and fair. He has pursued issues with our 15-year old C280 several times, not stopping until he found the right (meaning effective AND efficient) solution. And, the ultimate price to fix them was very, very fair. The entire team is highly focused on our needs every time we bring the baby back. With a finicky and wonderful car, you need someone you can trust completely--that someone is Ed. Plus, his shop dog is the best in town.

the year's first storm was fast approaching and my power window had stopped working just last week. i called ed and he confirmed that he would be able to take a look at the power window. it only took an afternoon for ed and his staff to repair the power window mechanism and its like new!

other shops said i would have to leave my car overnight. this was not option for me because i commute in the early morning. ed and his staff were professional and courteous. the staff even took time to wash my car and check the tire pressure.

thanks for the quick repair and competitive price.
    i will definitely be back.

  • *****

HONEST work! And, you get a free car wash! Thanks Ed

  • *****

Top marks - again and again. My 2001 Landrover Discovery would have bled my bank account dry over at Bitchish Motors but Ed has helped my out reasonably and honestly.

He has been a true saint to work with me on my budget by giving me options on what we need to do sooner versus later and what we have to do immediately to get it running.

He has been very helpful to me and I have recommended him personally before, so now I figured I'd recommend him on yelp here.

  • *****

Ed's is the new haus for my auto. I came in for brakes and got exactly what I asked for at a reasonable price and exactly 0% bullshit. I got my car back the same day and they also washed and vacuumed my car. Danke!

  • *****

I just purchased a vintage (1967) MBz coupe and had Ed check out the car to determine what needed to be worked on repaired/replaced.

He did a very thorough job at a very reasonable price. Ed's a pleasure to deal with and always very patient (I had lots of questions!) and super polite.

I recommend his shop highly -- if there was a 6 star rating I'd give him that.. Go to Ed, you won't go wrong!

  • *****

My 1st review on Yelp has to go to Ed's Autohaus. I've been taking my 1972 MB 300 SEL to Ed's Autohaus since he took over the place from an old German MB mechanic (they were great too). I have a complicated car with hard to find parts. Ed has always delivered. I worked in an autoshop as a youth. I understand a great mechanic is just as good if not better at diagnoses as they are in the actual fix process. Ed is well, well above par. As other reviews have noted, he is honest. He is also diligent. Ed will show where the problem is, explain the cost to fix it, and show you the old part(s) and new (if visible) when done. I've approached Ed with symptoms I described as catastrophic (a red light to those mechanics that look to take advantage). Ed's always on target and produces the proper result from ASE guidelines.
Ed's Autohaus is a gem. I would see them for all car issues with confidence. I hope he grow's out of his small shop and moves closer to my neighborhood...

Great work, Good prices, honest shop.

I took my classic 59 Edsel(I love my Edsel!) to Ed to fix because he came very highly recommended by a friend.
My car was missing badly and some water spray from the radiator had gotten in to the top of my valve cover through the oil cap so I thought it was a blown head gasket.
I took it to another shop by my house, and they also thought it was a head gasket.
Then I remember my buddy telling me about this great young mechanic on Harrison Street who liked old cars and knew how to fix them right.
I'm glad I went to Ed.
Ed did a compression check, pulled and replaced some really hideous looking spark plugs, and I was back on the road in a day.
Ed saved me about $1,000 or more, which I would have otherwise paid to have my head gasket done.
Plus he is a real gentleman.
I still need to pull and rebuild the motor eventually and when I do; Ed will probably be the guy to do the R&R
But for now, Ed has bought me at least another 6 months or so, before I'll have to do it.
I will definitely be bringing my other cars to Ed to work on in the future and would recommend him highly to do any work you need.

    Thanks a lot Ed!

  • *****

top notch service. ed is such a cool owner and he knows his stuff. i would highly recommend him and his company to anyone.

  • *****

My turn signal wasn't working so I came here since it was near my office. First time customer. Looked at it right away - just a simple burnt out bulb. They replaced it in under 2 minutes and sent me on my way. No charge for labor. No charge for parts. Just a "Happy New Year". How awesome is that?

  • *****

Have been going to Ed for over five years , he has taken care of two hondas and a ford van . He calls me , suggest the work necessary . And sometimes its less than the estimate . Good service and I trust the crew there .

  • *****

Ed is always friendly and does a thorough job for a reasonable price. I've had my Mercedes serviced at a number of different "authorized" specialists - but I've found Ed to be great at his job and not over charging for the work he does.

I found Ed's Autohaus through yelp. I was not disappointed. It was code P0171 and could be anything related to MAF, O2 sensor, or vacuum leak. Ed spent couple of hours to diagnose the problem, but the problem seems to be complicated. He suggested me to go to a dealer and didn't charge me a penny for the time that he spent for diagnose. Very professional and nice guy. Our service B is coming up and I will really consider to bring the car back for Ed. Thanks Ed!!

One thing that's hard to find in a mechanic is honesty. These guys are great. I took my car in because the guys who changed my oil said I had a leaky oil pan gasket. I took it to Ed, and he took a look at it and told me 'somebody' had just loosened all the bolts. He tightened them up and didn't charge me a thing, saving me a couple hundred dollars. I have been here a couple times and they are real straight shooters.

My car stalled on the Bay Bridge due to a dead battery!!!! I had the biggest scare of my life.

My co-workers swear by Ed's Autohaus. They were so nice and professional. Ed replaced my battery and told me I could pay on Monday since it was Friday and they were going away for the weekend. I paid right on the spot., of course, but it was so nice that they were so nice. (It helps that he knew where I work.)

I sleep better knowing that if anything ever happens to my car, Ed is there to fix it.

Worth-mentioning: I am a woman but I feel comfortable going to Ed's Autohaus. I used to dread car repairs--it was just too intimidating even for an independent woman like me. But service at Ed's is trustworthy, courteous and friendly.

I am from out of town and needed work on my car. Since it was a Saturday, I was unable to find any shops that were open. I called Ed's but they had just closed for the day. I explained that I was from out of town and Emerson was kind enough to refer me to another shop. I got top service from the other shop too! I will do business with both shops in the future.

Had my second perfect experience with these guys yesterday. They are fast, friendly and really reasonably priced. I have taken my BMW to a variety of places and no one has been even close to as good. Go there and you will be happy.

Like all the other reviews, Ed was a really nice honest guy. I was new to the bay area when I started taking my car to Ed's Autohaus and it was a breath of fresh air to find him.

He did several repairs on my 2003 530i and he was always extremely reasonable and thorough with his work. Give him a try! If I didn't move away from the area I would still be taking my car there.

The service and appropriate pricing is what really sets this place apart from all the other auto-repair places in SF!

For years my husband and I took our VW to the dealership shop --- but every time we left we felt sick from being so overcharged. We kept returning though because we are very picky about the quality of work being done on our car. We heard about Ed's through a friend and after just one service there, I am sure we will never go back to the dealer!

They are so kind and flexible, it really makes getting your car repaired an easy process. When they called with the price quote for the work that needed to be done, I used my RepairPal iPhone app to make sure the quote was appropriate. It came in $6 off the lowest reported price in the app!! That's pretty amazing!

Not only do these guys do a great job, are accommodating and friendly, but they wash/vacuum your car after every service. A nice finishing touch...

I bought a 1969 Mercedes 280se in December 2011. For my peace of mind I wanted to have the car reviewed by someone knowledgeable of this era Mercedes, so I brought it to Ed. I had an idea of what has been done "recently" to the car, the previous owner kept all maintenance records.
Before any work was done, Ed reviewed with me some issues he saw while the car was on the lift. He then provided me a break-down of repairs that are urgent versus those that can wait.
He won me over with his honesty.
I picked my car up today (after he washed it) and it runs great.
I'll definitely be seeing Ed for future repairs/maintenance.

A very honest trustworthy mechanic that you can't find in the city nowadays. Go to Ed's,I highly recommend his shop!!!!

I am someone who ALWAYS gets ripped off by mechanics. Mainly, because I know nothing about cars and I'm usually desperate by the time I go. Ed is my car angel. He does what he says he'll do and then some. He charges a very fair price and he consults with you through everything. He also has been kind enough to consult (for free) with my son who was buying a used Volvo and now has yet another devoted customer in my family. I will take my late model Mercedes to Ed for as long as I own it and you should trust him too.

My family and I were really blessed when we found Ed's Autohaus. Ed is the most
honest auto mechanic we have ever met. He is trustworthy, reliable, patient and has the most pleasant personality. His two employees have the same characteristics as Ed. When we take our automobiles to Ed to be serviced, 90% of the time he will have them ready for us to pick up the same day. He keeps us informed if he discovers
something that is paramount to the repair/service of the car. He will tell us what it is, how long it will take and the cost. 415-222-6900.
In addition to his Automechanics, he also has opened an Autobody Shop in San Francisco. It is located at 981 Howard St., on the left hand side of the street.
I can vouch for their autobody work. I had some damage to my vehicle and when I
learned that Ed had his Autobody Shop, managed by his brother in-law, Rod Green,
I asked him to schedule my car to be repaired. When I picked it up, it looks brand new.
Folks, if you want honesty, trustworthiness, patience and reliability, look no further than
Ed's Autohaus on 768 Harrison for servicing your vehicles. For Autobody repairs,
SF Autobody at 981 Howard. 415-400-4811.

I dropped my car off this morning for a 100k service and some other odds and ends. Ed called me within an hour and a half with full details. The repairs he explained that needed to be done definitely did! The cost was much less than I expected and less than estimates from Ford. Ed and his crew were very professional, took time to explain everything to me, and made me feel confident that they were doing the right thing. My car was ready by the afternoon, and done. And, washed! I'll be back for my next oil change and to finally get new brakes.

  • *****

Ed is fantastic. I've been using his services for two years since I moved to San Francisco. He's honest and personable. On my 05 Audi A4 I've had work done for as little as $40, all the way to $3000. He's flexible - he's loaned me a car for free, let me buy my own parts and bring them in, and always seems to fit an oil change in even when I know he's super busy. I'll be using him for nearly everything until I leave this city.

  • *****

Easily the best auto repair place I've ever dealt with. Honest, fast, thorough, and goes the extra mile. Cannot recommend this place enough; Ed, you're the man.

  • *****

I first went to Ed's a week after I bought my VW Passat. Suddenly, all the oil drained from my car, and I had to get it towed. I went to yelp and Ed's Autohaus had the best reviews. I knew that European cars were more expensive to fix, but I really didn't think in the few months I was planning on owning this car (between the Ford hybrid suv I had to regretfully sell and the Ford truck I planned on getting) I would have to repair it. Apparently there is such low clearance on a Passat between the oil pan and the ground, and when I had crossed one street while on another that had a quick upgrade from flat to hill, I tore open the oil pan. Though I was upset I was already paying for a repair, I knew that at least Ed's was the best deal in town for repairing it. They fixed it within the day, and I was able to pick up my car after work.

Then my car mysteriously gets two problems- the "brake STOP" warning light going on for two weeks, mysteriously fixing itself, and then the remote key stopped working for two weeks and mysteriously fixed itself...

Then one morning, after driving into town from Oakland, my car was making such a terribly loud squeeling noise that it turned heads. I pulled over, got my car towed to Ed's again. They called me a few hours later, and said they didn't hear anything. I said that's crazy, it was so loud, and I had to pull over twice because the first time I had bad cell reception and couldn't call AAA and it was making such a terrible noise the whole time I thought I'd permanently damage my car if I drove it. They said maybe it needed to be warmed up, and drove it for another half hour. Then in the evening, they offered to keep it overnight, drive it to and from home, and by then it would have to make the noise. It never did. Another mysterious fixing. (Which should have made me happy, but just made me swear I'd never get another VW because my ex had a VW that would suddenly not start, and her mechanic could never figure out the problem). When I picked up the car, I expected to be billed at least labor for all the time they spent driving my car, because it did take time out of their day to find the problem, and they didn't charge me a penny. I traded in my car and will never get another VW, but I will definitely recommend this shop to any of my poor friends that do own one, because these guys do not gouge you on repair costs, in fact they don't charge you when they can. I completely trust that this shop will do the most thorough job they can, and that they're not overcharging, and that they're the best deal in town for European auto care.

Ed was extremely helpful! I just moved to SF and I'm attempting to sell my car. I went it to have my Catalytic Converter, a possible exhaust leak, and a rattle looked at before I did a smog test. Not only did he fix the leak, show me exactly where the exhaust leak was coming from and how much it would cost to fix, but he did the entire inspection for FREE!!! On top of that he referred me to CleanAir Smog Check and I got a $10 discount!!!

I would highly recommend taking your vehicle to Ed's Autohaus for any repair.

I just had my car serviced there, and I highly recommend Ed and his team. Fast efcient service at a fair price....you actually walk away feeling good. He is a wonderul family man too, you may see his kids and dog on your visit... Theresa

I was fortunate to find Ed's to service my '02 BMW as I prepared to list it for sale. He accurately diagnosed the existing issues and fixed them very quickly and for a great price. By taking my car to Ed's, the car is now on the market -- and I feel great knowing that the new owner will have a car that's in tip-top shape.

TIP: The entrance for the garage is on Rizal Street (which is an alley that runs parallel to Harrison at the back of Ed's). Instead of parking your car on Harrison and going through the front door...and then trying to figure out how to get to the back of the shop you're better off just going straight to the back. When you're on Harrison, make a right on Lapu Lapu and then left on Rizal. Ed's will be about half way down on the left.

Thank you Ed's!! had an amazing experience here! literally drove up my car into the shop with steam coming out of my hood!!! didn t have an appointment, took my car in called me an hour later told me the cost, which was inbelievably reasonable for european cars and had the work done the next day!!

have to say the follow up service from ed was great, i received 3 calls in just a day letting me know the status and cost. very easy to work with and have already recommended to friends!

For all those that go to ROYAL motors for your VW, AUDI, VOLVO...bring your cars here, much better deal and MUCH better service

I have a Mercedes convertible with a retractable hardtop? Coolest thing since sliced bread. Even my Mom was impressed. Unfortunately, a while back, it stopped working. It would fail part way. So I took it to a couple of local mechanics, and they both said to take it to the dealer - it's a really complicated and delicate system, yada yada. So I took it to a local dealer. Well, they study it for a bit, and the customer service rep calls me to explain, "Your problem's the trunk. You need to take it to a body shop and get that trunk aligned. We can take a look after you get some bodywork." And then he directs me to the sales department. (You can imagine my eyeroll here.) Yeah, this is gonna cost me $2000 plus.

Anyway, then I get a brainstorm, and I decide to try Yelp. So I get on Yelp and look for who might be the smartest Mercedes mechanic in the Bay Area. I found a number of candidates, but I decide to try Ed's Autohaus first. I go in, explain the problem and he says he'll call me later. Fast forward six hours and the first words out of his mouth are, "I'm sorry..." Bummer dude! "So you can't fix it?" He corrects me, "No, I didn't say that. I just wanted to say that I couldn't figure it out yet, so I need to hang onto the car overnight. I'm sorry I couldn't fix it right away, but it's a really tough problem." Relieved, I say, "Please take all the time you need. I really appreciate your putting in the effort." I cross my fingers after I hang up, hoping this is da guy.

The next afternoon, he calls back. "Yes? Did you find the problem?" Ed says, "Yep, it was a partially hidden wire that was disconnected. That's all it was. Oh, and your trunk was a little misaligned, so I fixed that too." A bonafide miracle. "So, what's the bill?" I can feel Ed smiling through the phone as he says this... "$200." Man, this is a guy who actually enjoys pleasing a customer, not gouging one.

So I go and pick up the car, and the roof is working perfectly. The trunk is closing and latching really smoothly too. I ask about scheduled maintenance, and he quotes prices that are less than half what the dealer charges. Just before driving off, I shake his hand and thank him for fixing the car so brilliantly and saving me quite a bit of money. He says, "Yeah, the economy's been tough on everyone. We're doing what we can to help our customers make it through the recession." Man, what is he? The Mother Theresa of auto repair? The only guy in town who doesn't see a Mercedes owner as a mark with money?

Yeah, definitely, I can say without equivocation... Ed Bordner is the finest Mercedes mechanic in San Francisco Bay Area. Absolutely!

I'm sure you all know that Ed services german autos better than anyone in San Francisco, but did you know that he can restore FUCKING BRITISH SPORTS CARS!!!?! oh yes, you heard me correctly, he restored my 1963 Austin Healey for a fraction of the other bids I've got throughout norcal.

Ed has thoroughly impressed me with the work he's performed on my mercedes, but this proves that there isn't a car in the world that he can't make run like a top.

Thank you ed for your excellent work and reasonable prices. I can't recommend you enough!

I brought my A4 to the Audi dealership last spring. It had been out of warranty for about six months when my check engine light came on. Since the car was on recall for ignition coils I took it in assuming that would be the end of it. They replaced the coils and then said the issue was something else. Well, long story short I spent $1000+ and multiple trips to the dealership with them "fixing" my problem. The check engine light came on yet again and I decided I was tired of being a recurring revenue stream for Oakland Audi.

After checking reviews on Yelp I brought my car into Ed. He identified the issues (needed new spark plugs and one other small part costing $80). He replaced the plugs and the part and voila! Problem solved! I waited a couple of months to write this review to make sure the problem did come back. It has not and I will be back to Ed's the next time I need service. I would highly recommend Ed's Autohaus to anyone with a German (or any other) car.

Went here for the first time today so I got a 20% off discount for being a new customer.

They did every thing I asked and my car was done on time when they said it would be and they gave me a courtesy call.

Also felt like I was charged fairly and Ed showed me the part that he had replaced and how it was damaged. He also gave me an estimate for a repair he will be doing next week that was also priced fairly.

I was surprised to see that they had cleaned my car including the rims that were really dirty and I couldn't get them clean but they are sparkling like new now WOW that is awesome service!!!

Like I said I will be back next week :)

Going to Ed makes us switch from the BMW dealership to Ed's Autohaus. Just, first let me say that the address is a bit misleading as the service entrance is better reached from the Rizal street side, so best to turn onto Lapu Lapu street from Harrison before passing Ed's. Now to the story. The top on my wife's BMW roadster would not retract and we didn't know why and I searched the internet for a hint but couldn't find one. We dropped the car off at Ed's and within a few minutes found the problem which was something simple (simple for Ed, difficult for us) and he didn't charge for the service. So we appreciate that and will return again.

With 70+ Five-star reviews, going on and on about Ed's honesty, and dependability hardly seems necessary. But because of the great service he has given me I certainly owe it to him to say a few nice words.

Ed is a real mensch. He and his crew are the only people I allow to touch my classic Mercedes.

Owning an older car comes with the expectation that you have to spend money along the line to maintain it. With Ed looking out for me, I have peace of mind knowing that the money is well spent. I feel as though every piece of advice he gives would be the same as if I was a member of his family. And while I feel like he charges me as if I was a member of his family, he's such a nice guy he probably wouldn't think of accepting money from his family.

My friend has almost the same car as me, a 1983 Mercedes Benz wagon. I love this car. When the transmission started lagging, he told me it was most likely due to a vacuum issue. He recommended Ed's Autohaus. I was told by another shop that I would probably need a new transmission soon, and that the vacuum problem was a mystery.

I took my car down to Ed's to see what they would say. Ed called back and said it looked like the transmission would need to be replaced and that it would cost a couple thousand. I was not happy to hear this but thought if it needed to be done then it should be done. He said they would take a very thorough look at the situation before taking any further action.

I got a call back from Ed later that day. Turns out it WAS a vacuum issue. The other shop either didn't see it or didn't know how to fix it. Ed's Autohaus fixed the vacuum, adjusted the timing belt, and an hour and a half of labor with no parts later...my car was good to go.

When I came to pick up my sweet ride, they had shined up the dash and it looked and drove like new.

Their customer service is personable and honest.

The shop is just what it needs to be, nothing fancy...makes me feel like I'm not paying for unnecessary frills.

I will take my car here from now on.

Thanks, guys! Keep up the good work!

  • *****

Yep as Good as it Gets! Emerson and Ed rock! They can fix any car any time and keep saving me money all the time. No Joke. Recently I was looking at a 2005 V70 Wagon from a Dealer for my wife and they hooked it up to the computer and told me in advance about the timing belt, water pump and to change the oil to Synthetic as the dealership had the wrong oil in the car. With that, I bought the 2005 Volvo wagon with only 86k miles and they did the minor mechanical work and now the car is like new! These guys keep on ticking like a Timex and great to work with, saved me $$$ and time vs. other independent shops! I wouldn't go anywhere else and with their new location off 6th and Harrison, its easy to get to, convenient location and close to the city in SOMA! But you better make an appointment as they are busy and have a really following. Now I'm in trouble because with this review I will never get in for service based on YELP and word on mouth. Serious, you won't be sorry to visit Ed's Autohaus sooner than later for all your automotive needs big or small.!!!

  • *****

Came here because of the 5 star reviews. After retrieving my car, I can say their company is well deserved of this rating. I've never given 5 stars for any company or restaurant here on yelp, but this is definitely a 5er.

When I showed up for my scheduled appointment, Ed stopped what he was doing to greet me and check out my car. He pulled out the giant OBD II reader and scanned it right away. My car needed to be serviced for more than I day which I was ready for. I showed up at 3pm, so it's no wonder.

Ed called me back and told me exactly what they found out was the problem (broken SRS harness) and estimated a cost. Seemed high, but the work to resolve the problem included the estimate. Before I picked up my car, he had lowered it to 2.5 hrs instead of 3.5.

When I showed up to pay the bill, I asked for the 20% off for first time customers and Ed didn't even hesitate. He knocked off additional monies right away! Rather than just collecting my money and saying good bye, he showed me the part that had to be replaced and explained exactly what happened.

And the car was washed! Not just the outside either. They vacuumed the inside too! Unheard of. I'm definitely coming back if I'm unfortunate enough to experience another Mercedes problem.

I'm referring all my friends and family to this place. Ed's been great.

  • *****

I like Ed...his "autohaus" is nowhere near as fancy as the big Mercedes dealership I had been taking my C230 to for years, but delivers so much better service and value, its absurd. Sure, no fancy lounge with free coffee and miniature car models you can buy, but straight up great service.

The straw finally came when the dealer (who shall remain nameless, although you can easily see them driving south on 101) wanted to charge me $1000+ for replacing my alternator - and that was with me giving them the replacement part I ordered online!!! Ridic. I went to Ed's and they replaced it for around $200. Have been going there ever since.

Ed and his staff show you their work. They show you the parts. They take time to explain what they did and why things went wrong or what needed to be fixed. Doing all of this at a fraction of the cost of the Merc dealer.

After some recent repair work for a "check engine" light, it came back on. Ed had mentioned a guarantee on their work. True to his word he replaced - at no charge- a faulty sensor to once again solve the problem!

So, I highly recommend Ed and his autohaus...plus, this is a guy with pics of his kids up in his office - makes me feel so much better supporting him than the big corporate dealer who is more concerned about profit than you or your car!

Ed's Autohaus is my captain save a person :) . Ed and his team are very professional and they treat me like I know what I'm talking about when somethings wrong. "Ed, like it just flickers"...Ed reads between the lines. They are located in Downtown, so if you work downtown it will be very convenient.

Please give Ed and his crew a call. They will know what to do with your car. (sounds like a jingle).

They have fabulous reviews here - they probably don't need one more because they clearly know what they are doing, are very kind and professional, give you your car back in better shape IN and OUT than when you dropped it off and of course, they are honest; they tell you what has to be done now and what can be put off a few pay checks down the road. This review is for all you Saab freaks who are still hanging on. Ed and Emerson really know Saabs. So happy I could cry. You will be, too. They are awesome

Ed is the man. First came to him for a pre-purchase inspection which was reasonably priced, and ended up saving me tons of money (let me know the car needed brakes/ tires, in the $2,000 range). I ended up not purchasing the car.

Second time, I was nervous. Real nervous. I own an old Mercedes SLK with a finicky convertible top. Last time I had similar problems, it cost me $3,000 dollars at another "reputable" mechanic's, and my car was in their shop for over a month. It was a traumatic experience - quoted price kept changing (not to my benefit, obviously) and they were extremely disorganized (lost record of our agreed-upon price, then acknowledged they found it, after sending an invoice for $700 more).

This time, my convertible top stopped working, and it was only a year after my nightmare getting the top entirely fixed for $3k. Not a good sign. Also, at the shop a year before, the owner told me that my car was "a mess" and needed tons of work (brakes, steering issues, etc). Oh no.

I bring the car to Ed. Ask him about my ASR light that won't turn off. Ask him to check out my brakes, and just a quick once-over. I tell him about my convertible top. He asks for me to come back in an hour. I come back, and he's grinning. Somehow, the convertible top is working. He tightened a bolt in the trunk, and voila! He also told me that the ASR light wasn't indicative of any problem, my car is just old and lights like to come on, so I didn't need to get it fixed. And, finally, my brakes were 100% fine, and my old mechanic apparently lied to me. For the grand finale, I won't get into price, but um, Ed is awesome.

Ed is super honest, and I'm not dreading any more problems with my old car because I know he's super knowledgeable and won't take advantage of his customers.

I feel so lucky that I found Ed (from Yelp!) after the mechanic who serviced my Saab for years died. As others have noted, if spending money on a car can ever feel good, Ed makes it far easier with his honesty and the skills of both he and of his staff. Unfailingly helpful, responsive - and my car now drives like it is 10 years younger (it's 22 years old)!

Ed is outstanding! I have been a customer since 2006 and he has done various work for my vehicles - anywhere from basic maintenance, leak and electrical repairs for a 1973 VW Squareback, and installation of an ARB Winch Bull Bar/Front Bumper and Old Man EMU lift kit for my Tacoma.

When I need auto work done, in the past, I will typically buy the parts, procrastinate for a while, find some excuse not to do it myself, and take it somewhere and pay a bunch of money to have it done.

This time, I took it to Eds Autohaus based on yelps recommendation: New belts & and oil change all done within the time promised (even after I came in without an appointment when they appeared busy) and at a reasonable price. They even cleaned up the engine bay & interior a bit just because.

I will not procrastinate anymore. My little pickup will go straight to Eds as soon as I've got the requisite parts and excuses.

Brought my BMW in for a quick oil change. Great service at a moderate price. AND they washed my car, so it was even more worth it.

    1995 Saab 900s 146K

I inherited this Saab from a friend who had babied it for the past 10 years after getting it from another friend, who babied it for 5 years. So all in all it was in good shape mechanically. Having had a Saab in the past I was aware of the need for good servicing on these cars to keep them running into high mileage. It had been serviced at one of the major Saab shops in town. I went there for a few times but just never got a good vibe so I tried the "other" big Saab shop. They were great but missed the ball the last round and they had no space to hold the car which was a problem, especially with an older car that may need to be towed in.

I came across Ed's shop on Yelp and decided third time might be a charm and it has been. Ed's is everything I was looking for in a shop. I like a no frills shop that will talk with me and let me look under the hood with them. Since I've been going to them they have replaced the clutch and distributor and muffler, along with a couple oil changes. My old Saab drives like a new car and I couldn't be happier! They always answer the phone and call me back the same day with a quote which is always under what other shops charge. They can always have a quick turn around and leaving the car or parking is never an issue. They even washed my car for me!! Who does that these days?

They've been frank about what work should be done and what can wait and have even worked with me on price as I'm really trying to balance keeping this car going strong on a shoestring budget (of course).

I have nothing but praise for these guys and highly recommend them!!

  • *****

If you need work done on your car, I would HIGHLY recommend Ed's. My car came back in the best condition I've ever experienced after being in a shop. Previously I've had grease stains on my upholstery among other cosmetic issues that weren't there before I dropped it off. Not here.

I needed a brake job. Bad. As in my front caliper decided to fail, busted off, and leaked my brake fluid everywhere and I lost pressure and careened through a stop light screaming like a school girl. As it turns out, I needed some new pads and a rotor on a few other wheels and Ed did the job. The estimate was high, but the work completed was expensive to begin with. I despise when people review based on price, owning a car isn't cheap, and if it breaks, it usually isn't cheap to fix. If you're worried about price, call and get estimates at other places, Google the parts costs, and do your own research; it's called being a smart consumer.

Anyway, I ended up with a well done brake job. Nice new rotors, clearly a car wash, oil change, and a clean interior. Ed was very nice, showed me the parts, explained what had happened, and pulled my car up front. The brake job was done quickly and my car was returned in a better condition that showed above-and-beyond compassion for auto care.

I will be back for another visit! Great place!

Our 1985 Mercedes is like an anorexic Brazilian model - absolutely gorgeous, but a bit frail and prone to fits of angst. Ed's is the automotive equivalent of a burger-and-a-Valium. Honest, consistent, and affordable. Always there, never fail.

    LOVE Ed!!!

Ed and his auto expert team really are the best! I have been affiliated with the Auto Industry for a long time and have never come across the knowledge and experience of Ed's Autohaus working on my wife's Volvo Wagon or my Mercedes-Benz Convertible.

They are easy to work with, get it done in a timely manner and a great value for the money. Plus, the people at Ed's Autohaus are great people and the location is convenient too to San Franscisco in SOMA. Why go to the factory locations and pay a mint to have your worked on or pay $185 the dealer service rate. Call Ed today as I am really pleased to recommend him and his team to everyone who drives either Luxury or Domestic automobile. You won't go wrong!!!

I love going here to get my car fixed. Ed does a very thorough job and explains what needs to be done. His prices are reasonable and has a very friendly staff. I referred many friends to this place and they were all happy.

I love this place... I come all the way to SF from Nevada when I need work done... ed I'll see ya in Feb..

I am not a frequent yelp review poster. Perhaps that's sufficient justification for my initial glowing review of Ed's Autohaus ending up in the "filtered" reviews. But I'm back here with another review, and if yelp filters this one too, so be it. I just picked up my 1999 Audi A6 Avant after some major maintenance by Ed, and my baby is running like a new car. If you want to take care of your car and might need something more than a routine service, Ed's Autohaus is a sure bet.

  • *****

I had my battery replaced here a few years ago. Autohaus installed an Interstate brand battery with a 5 year warranty, and I paid a lot for it. It just died, and (after a bit of hesitation) Autohaus replaced it with a new battery free of charge.

  • *****

Although, Ed's Autohaus had a few bad reviews here on yelp! I decided to give this place a shot since a friend of mine has trusted Ed to work on his car for the past 5 years.
So, I brought my BMW in for a tune-up alittle skeptical since i had to drive to be somewhere that evening and desperately needed my car to be done before I was off work!.. But, i put my worries aside and just brought it in anyways!!
Im glad i did too cause not only did Ed get the job done before I got off that day, he also picked me up from work so I didn't have to cab it or bum a ride off a coworker... He also was able to fix the a few little issues I was having with my car...like my passenger window being off track and My trunk not opening when pulling the release handle from inside. And I didn't even mention it to him.... At the end of the day, I paid what I was quoted for the tune-up, got all the little issues fixed on my car and made it that evening... Mission accomplished thanks to eds autohaus!

The Prius needed its 15k check-up, and I needed a shop that was trustworthy and convenient. Yelpers led me to Autohaus... and did not let me down.

Dropped the car off in the morning; Ed had it done by noon with tires rotated, oil changed and the various usual checks completed. $65 total, quite reasonable compared to other options out there.

Will definitely be back next time I need service (which, of course, I hope is a long time from now).

I'm overdue on giving Ed a review. Although, I can see he has 5 stars already so this is just a confirmation of his already perfect rating.

I brought my car to his shop a couple of times. And most recently, my Saab broke down a couple of weeks ago, literally rolled on it's last fumes to the front of his business. WHICH, by the way, was a space out front that Ed put coins in for me until the car cooled down. He did a full inspection, we discussed the options, the price to fix and I decided to sell. Ed suggested I put the car on Craigslist "as is" and sell it right from his lot. I was able to do so overnight, with Ed's help. When I asked him how much for the inspection, he waved me away. I insisted and he said no payment. Um, wow!

Ed's operation is definitely built on honor, trust and transparency. This is something that can't be said about a lot of mechanics, especially in SF. You rock Ed's Autohaus!!

We had car problems just as we were about to start a road trip, car dealership scared us thinking we HAD to tow our car and fix the problem, but our hotel found Ed for us and he assured us we were in no danger at all! We didn't need to fix anything, except we needed oil, and Ed filled us up, at no charge. He was honest, informative, and so helpful. If we lived in SF, we'd be loyal customers for sure!
    Thanks Ed!

i brought my car in to this shop based on the reviews. I was still apprehensive. I expected my repairs on the car to take about a week. I was basing it on the time frame my mercedes dealer used to just give me an estimate(no repair yet). After a day of leaving it there, they called me a day later and told me it was done. From what I can see and the professional way they handled everything. I am impressed.
They seem to be very genuine and professional. Unlike the dealership, I did not get a salespitch to get other work done. Its like a having a friend working on your car (but this friend know how to do it). I found my new mechanic.

  • *****

Yes yes! I know my 97 Ford Windstar is under $700 KBB. The crew here was great to help out and it runs like a semi champ now.

  • *****

Highly, highly recommended! We were getting ready for a 300+ mile drive and our car started making horrific sounds and the check engine light came on. We stopped in without an appointment and Ed and his crew welcomed us like family. They spent close to an hour with the car (Volvo S60). They diagnosed the issue and explained that the part would take a few days to receive. They fashioned a temporary solution, wrote up the issue for my local mechanic and wished us a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. They would not accept a penny for their labor and advice. What a fantastic establishment!

We have been taking our 20-year old BMW to Ed's Autohaus for 5+ years - and it's still driving great! Ed and Emerson know how to work their magic on our slightly cranky aging vehicle, saving us a great deal of money and hassle. They are extremely trustworthy - always letting us know what is necessary and what can wait. Their customer service goes above and beyond - they really treat us like friends, and they always explain things in detail. We have been to many mechanics in many different cities but now we will never go anywhere else - these guys are the BEST!

  • *****

BRAVO EMERSON AND ED! You have brought my Land Rover Discovery back to life! We were thinking our '98 Discovery that was garaged for 5 years was a lost cause but you have made it all shiny and new again inside and out! It looked "showroom" ready! Their attention to detail and customer service rival those of the "luxury/factory" mechanics (even better than when we used to bring the Rover to British Motors SF! for service) Emerson always keep you informed as to the final price before getting any job done and willing to work to make sure you are getting the best deal without sacrificing quality. We are very happy to have found Emerson and Ed and will continue to be coming here for many more years. These guys know what they are doing and do it with pride! A rare small town type of service in the middle of metropolitan SF! A+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++!

Great service all the way around. I've been going to Ed's for about the last 18 months or so... primarily for oil changes with my SAAB. Recently though, I needed to take the car in since my front bumper was partially ripped off after sinking into the grass at Crissy Field, then backing up with the bottom of the bumper getting hung up in the ground. I was dreading the bill. I was certain it would be $1000. In the end, they made it look almost like new, and the cost... $50.

    Great guys. Great service.

  • *****

Incredibly friendly staff. Emerson was so helpful with my oil issue...highly recommend!

What an amazing team of nice, honest, competent guys. Anyone willing to work on our wreck would have to be. Always looking after your budget while doing the best work. Unquestionably recommended!

My usual mechanic is in the process of moving out of his garage, and has referred his customers to Ed's. My beloved Saab is 15 years old and I had put off maintenance for too long. I finally made an appointment with Emerson at Ed's Autohaus. I could not have asked for a better experience. Ed and Emerson cared for my car as if it was their own. There were a couple of fairly extensive repairs that needed to be done, and Emerson explained everything so thoroughly that I felt quite comfortable approving the work. When I picked up my car we chatted for quite a while, and if I had had any trepidation, it vaporized. They're not only consummately capable mechanics, but they're friendly guys, and my experience with them was delightful. When I started up my girl, she sounded and drove like a brand-new sports car.

I'm sorry to see my old guys go away, if indeed they do (which seems more and more likely), but I'm just delighted to have found Ed and Emerson. I give them my highest recommendation.

I have an '83 300d Mercedes and chose Ed's because of other reviews and they are so close to home. As a mechanic's daughter who doesn't have a garage - I feel lucky to find an honest, communicative and timely repair shop. It's an industry that is filled with slackers and swindlers, but you won't find any of that here. They get it that we put a lot of trust in someone to get, not just a car back on the road, but a part of our lives running smoothly again.

    Thanks Emerson and Ed!!

Found Ed's Autohaus on Yelp a few years ago when I needed to find a place to take my '86 560SL. Ed and the guys have treated me and the car so well that I have taken both my cars there ever since. No gouging or forcing unnecessary repairs. Always very simple explanations on what is wrong and very fair prices on work that they do. You would not find a nicer bunch of guys anywhere. Highly recommended!

I live in SF but was still going down to Palo Alto Bimmer for my mechanical issues, as I've been going there for years and really trust the guys there, both to fix the car and not to oversell. I finally realized it really was time to find an SF mechanic. In a pinch, I'd tried out another clinic referred by AAA that had the distinction of being open on a Saturday, but felt like I was being taken advantage of. So I was still on the lookout for a go-to place.

Ed was clearly knowledgeable and very quickly able to diagnose the issues with the car, but I also appreciated him walking through them carefully with me to identify which ones were immediate safety concerns and which ones I could wait on. His quote was very competitive plus he was able to fix the car same day. They had the car ready when they promised and though they made a mistake on the estimate they honored the original quote. I am definitely going back to Ed's.

  • *****

I was at Robert's Tires right next door to Ed's and my battery died. Robert's battery jumper wasn't doing the trick, so, Robert asked Ed to come over and borrow his jumper. Ed's jumper worked and I really appreciated him taking the time to help me especially since I wasn't even one of his customers. A very professional and nice guy. If you need work done on your vehicle, you should check him out.

  • *****

Hands down the most trustworthy, honest mechanic I've ever met! I've been bringing all my cars to Ed ever since he opened up his shop. If there is ever a repair my Car DOESNT NEED, he will always let me know...which in turn saves me tons of money. Repairs are always done on time when promised and I've never ever had to come back for something done wrong. FIVE STAR SERVICE!

I finally found a place to take my car that I WANT to go to. All other places were out of necessity.

Ironically i found this place because someone who wanted to buy my car from the East Bay (Fremont) goes to Ed's Autohaus in SF for everything including pre-purchase inspections. I came here to drop off my car for the pre-purchase inspection, which was paid for by the potential buyer who introduced me to this place. Ed, the owner, is very professional and provided me a detailed and thorough report (found out things I never knew about from my own mechanic at the time). Emerson drove me home so I didn't have to wait for the inspection and I could tell that he not only knew what he was doing, but he enjoyed where he was working thus indicating he had a good employer, which is important and very telling.

I sold my car, but not to the same person who sent me to Ed's Autohaus. I then bought a new used car and vowed never to go back to my previous mechanic because he never told me the problems that Ed's Autohaus was able to identify during the pre-purchase inspection. It was time for my 30K maintenance so I went to Ed's Autohaus. Again, everyone was very nice, professional, flexible, reasonably priced, and not hungry for money.

Emerson even found my little garage remote that I had been looking for for over a month and buffed out the huge white scratches on my dark grey car. Just those two things alone were worth the price of my 30K maintenance =)

I am so happy I FINALLY found somewhere to take my car and one that I can feel good about recommending to others as well.

Brought my car in for repairs over the weekend and left it there since I had no other option .
Ed loaned me a shop loaner car to get me back home, Today just picked up my Audi and was impressed with the work and time put in over the weekend, fixed and ready to head back to Washington . One of the best mechanics in SF, I feel great knowing I got my car done, torque converter, valve cover gasket, front axles. All got different prices from different shops and Eds autohaus was the best quote for around the area especially close to downtown .
Would recommend this shop , I just picked it up today and looking forward to the 13 hr drive worry free. Good job guys.

i recently purchased a '85 280SL that was in really good shape but wanted to get it inspected by a shop that's familiar with older MB's. found ed's though yelp and i'm very glad i did. i met with emerson and he asked what needed to be done in addition to the inspection. I gave him a small list of things and left the car with him.

i got a call from emerson about 4 hours later and he went through his findings of the inspection. what was impressive to me was that emerson was good at troubleshooting and providing short term recommendations before any major work to be performed. for instance, emerson thought that there might be a leak through the head gasket. he noticed that the cylinder heads bolts were loose and tightened them for me. he pressure washed the engine compartment as well so any leak can be clearly detected.
just by tightening the bolts made a huge difference in performance as there was low compression prior. emerson's knowledge and service has convinced me that this is the shop to take my car! highly recommend them.

by the way, their new address is 980 harrison near 6th street.

My alternator went out on my RAV4 last week on my way to work. The aaa driver recommended Ed's shop because they give free diagnosis. They were able to take my car the same day, quickly diagnose the problem and write me an estimate. We said yes to the repair and he got the job done in the same day for the exact price he quoted us. They were so friendly and helpful and did exactly what they say they would, no bs and no total bill that was double the estimate. I'm going to recommend them to my friends and go back for sure! Thanks guys!

Was looking for a place near work on Yelp that could fix a pesky oil leak on my 2001 BMW 325ci. Knew this day was coming, oil change place has been telling me about the leak for 9 months now. Had 2 verbal quotes of $900+ just to change out a $5 gasket. Took it to Ed's and paid $600. Plus he fixed my burnt out tail light, and my cracked windshield washer fluid tank. Awesome, definitely taking my car here from now on. Thanks Ed!

Been comming to Ed now for many years.
I must say he Is a honest, cost effective and a skilled mechanic.

His guys are so nice to educate me on my vehicle as well and advise me what i should and should not do.

Im all thumbs when itcomes to my car but my mind and wallet is at ease knowing they will take care of my ride

    Thanks Guys

My first experience with Ed's was great. Emerson knows his stuff. My 1982 Mercedes 380sl was treated with service beyond my expectations. I brought it in for a complete front end bushing/ ball joint refurbishment. Not only did they replace the parts but also painted my existing parts with a fresh coat of black paint! Those wheel wells haven't looked that good since...well 1982. As he was backing it out of the garage, I noticed a reverse light out. He popped a new one in lickity split! Emerson explained in clear detail the repairs he did, the repairs he recommends should happen, and which ones are more pressing versus the ones that can wait a bit.

I recently got my father-in-law's 2003 Mercedes Coupe, he was worried about giving it to me as the dealer said it needed over $3000 worth of work, if not more. I took it to Ed's (one of the few opened Christmas week). Ed's did a thorough inspection, found a few other small things and came back with a quote of less than half the price the dealer quoted. More importantly, he carefully explained all the issues and costs - something the dealer refused to do. The work was great and the car runs smoothly.

My second review of the place. They fired Nicky, who was helping me previously.

I had a great experience this time. Brought my car in for an oil change. Not only did they change my oil, they also cleaned the exterior and removed a stubborn stain in the interior. Everyone I spoke to were super friendly and helpful. I would definitely come back again.

My radiator overheated last week. My car was delivered to Emerson about 5 PM. It was repaired by noon the next day. The price was fair and the service excellent. I highly recommend this shop.

I've now taken my car to Ed's twice and the experience has been nothing short of phenomenal. Ed's Autohaus is my go to place for all my car needs. Both Ed and Emerson are honest and upfront with what is needed for repairs. They treat their customers with respect and their craftsmanship is superb! Highly recommend this place for anyone looking for an honest mechanic.

  • *****

Long story short. I had a hell of a transmission leak a few blocks from Ed's and Emerson gave me 5 quarts of tranny fluid in good faith that I would return the next day and pay him back. (Which I did)
I then came back 2 weeks later with a bad suspension problem. Emerson, Ed, and the boys hooked it up CHEAP and got it done in 24 HOURS!!!
    EXCELLENT JOB GUYS!! 6 STARS!

Competent and honest, these guys fixed a long term problem for much less than other mechanics!

I recently had a problem with my convertible top not closing/opening properly anymore. I took it to the BMW dealership service, but unfortunately my warranty had already run out. BMW analyzed the problem, charged me $100 for the diagnosis and told me it would cost $600-700 to fix. This seemed insanely high so I went in search of alternative options.

Ed's had great reviews and so I gave them a call, explained what BMW had diagnosed to be wrong and they called me back with a $400 estimate. Already much better than what the dealership had quoted. I gave Ed's the go ahead to order the part and 2 days later they called back to schedule me in for the next day. I dropped the car off early in the morning with the promise that it would be done by the end of the day. A couple of hours later, Ed's called me to let me know that the issue was something completely different than what BMW had told me, the part they ordered wasn't even necessary, and it would only run me $250 in labor to fix.

At the end of the day I went back to pick up my car, everything worked perfectly and their overall customer service was just amazing! I have already recommended them to a coworker who was quoted way less by Ed's than by BMW also and she had just as great of an experience. Highly recommend this auto repair shop! Hopefully I won't need to use their services again for a while, but I'm at ease knowing I have a reliable place to take my car that doesn't overcharge and is running an honest, friendly business.

I've been meaning to write this review for a long time. Emerson takes such great care of my car, and he is friendly and knowledgeable. It's easy to get your car serviced there too, the guys are honest and straight forward about the work that needs to be done and they always get it done right. I have a Saab and I've taken it there for maintenance check ups, brakes, tires and headlight replacements. The work is always done on time, and with good quality. Thanks Emerson!

They know their stuff. I have a used Saab 93 and when I bot it about a year ago I was not very knowledgeable about the detailed workings of the car. Steve and Jay at Planet Saab were very helpful and whenever I had a question they were always on the mark. Each time I have had my car in for service they have only done what is necessary and been proactive with keeping me informed about any issues. And their charges are very reasonable.
